Who we are
Contenta (“we,” “us,” “our”) is operated by Chris Chidgey as a sole proprietorship based in Meridian, Idaho. We provide SEO, content, and social media services for small product brands, delivered in part through a Shopify app embedded in the Shopify admin.
What data we collect
When you install our Shopify app, we access the following data from your Shopify store through the permissions you grant during installation:
- Order data — order totals, dates, and sales channel attribution. Used to calculate your monthly sales, commission, and baseline.
- Store information — your shop name, domain, and admin configuration.
- Product and content data — product listings, pages, blog posts, theme files, navigation, and metafields. Accessed when we perform SEO and content work on your behalf as part of your engagement.
We do not collect personal data from your customers. We access order totals and channel information — not customer names, emails, addresses, or payment details.
How we use your data
- Display your month-to-date sales and commission on your Contenta dashboard.
- Calculate your sales baseline for commission purposes.
- Perform SEO, content, and theme work on your store as part of your service engagement.
- Generate weekly progress reports visible on your dashboard.
Where your data is stored
Commission records, weekly logs, and baseline data are stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Neon (neon.tech) in the United States. The application is hosted on Vercel. Order data is fetched live from Shopify on each page load and is not stored in our database.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services to operate Contenta:
- Shopify — store platform and data source.
- Vercel — application hosting.
- Neon — database hosting.
- Google Analytics — anonymized website usage analytics on contenta.io (not your store).
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any other third parties.
Data retention
We retain your commission records and weekly logs for the duration of your engagement and for 12 months after termination for accounting purposes. When you uninstall our Shopify app, we stop accessing your store data immediately. You may request deletion of all stored data at any time by contacting us.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Request a copy of the data we hold about your store.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data.
- Uninstall the Shopify app at any time, which immediately revokes our access to your store.
GDPR and international users
If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with data protection laws, you have additional rights under those laws. Our lawful basis for processing your data is the performance of our service contract with you. Contact us to exercise any data protection rights.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Shopify app or by email. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when this policy was last revised.
